Why Landed Permanent Residence (LPR) ?

Actually, you do not need to apply LPR in order to work in Singapore. You can use the working visa scheme, as long as you can find a company which want to sponsor for you. Unfortunately, there is a quota limitation in sponsoring foreigner working visa for every company (source: MOM). That is why most companies prefer to hire citizens or PR rather than foreigners. In addition to that, the advantage for employers is that there is less paperwork, formalities and expenses involved. So it's better for you to apply LPR first prior to coming and looking for job in Singapore.

When you come to Singapore, you are given 30 days tourist visa, which means you are allowed to stay in Singapore only for 30 days, you can extend your visa once, so total you get 2x30 days to find a job with company who wants to sponsor visa. If let's say you can't find a job within 2x30 days, sorry, you have to leave Singapore.

The easier way is by using Landed Permanent Residence (LPR). By holding LPR status, you are entitled to 2x6 months, total 1 year visa, more than sufficient time to find a job! And more over, you are treated equally as Singaporean and PR for job application, because you do not need visa sponsorship from company. There are no companies which do not want to employ PR status, while many companies do not want to sponsor working visa for foreigner.

As soon as you get a job in Singapore, you can convert your LPR to PR very easily, and congratulations for your new job and your future better living in Singapore!
